Axiomatic tests for the Boltzmann distribution

چکیده
Abstract The Boltzmann distribution family describes a single parameter (temperature) class of probability distributions over state space; at any given temperature, the ratio probabilities two states depends exponentially on their difference in energy. Beyond physics, this is very popular many important disciplines, under different names with interpretations. Such widespread use diverse fields suggests common conceptual structure. We identify such structure basis few natural axioms that can be statistically tested. Our axiomatic characterization thus provides alternative empirical tests Boltzmannian modeling theories.

In the context of the dynamical systems of classical mechanics, we introduce two new notions called “algorithmic fine-grain and coarse-grain entropy”. The fine-grain algorithmic entropy is, on the one hand, a simple variant of the randomness tests of MartinLöf (and others) and is, on the other hand, a connecting link between description (Kolmogorov) complexity, Gibbs entropy and Boltzmann entro...
متن کاملBayes Interval Estimation on the Parameters of the Weibull Distribution for Complete and Censored Tests
A method for constructing confidence intervals on parameters of a continuous probability distribution is developed in this paper. The objective is to present a model for an uncertainty represented by parameters of a probability density function. As an application, confidence intervals for the two parameters of the Weibull distribution along with their joint confidence interval are derived. The...
متن کاملMaxwell-Boltzmann Distribution for He Ions
Statistical mechanics deals with systems having a large number of particles. In statistical mechanics, large scale properties (such as temperature, pressure etc) are studied by applying probability theory to a large number of small particles. Hence this is a probabilistic theory and the behaviour of all of the system is studied using the average individual behaviour of particles. With small num...
